When it comes to Christmas, gift-giving is often about finding the perfect balance between thoughtfulness and practicality. This year, according to a Statista Consumer Insights survey, practicality takes the top spot in the United States, with many Americans expressing a strong preference for monetary gifts. While cash or bank transfers may not be the most glamorous option, they are undoubtedly the most desired, chosen by 45% of women and 34% of men.
For both men and women, clothing, textiles, and shoes ranked as the second most desired gift, reflecting a universal appreciation for items that combine style and utility. Gift vouchers secured the third spot, making it clear that flexibility in spending is a highly valued aspect of holiday presents.
Gender differences also play a subtle role in shaping holiday wish lists. Among women, cosmetics, perfumes, and body care products ranked fourth, selected by 27% of respondents. For men, however, these items fell to 13th place, with only 12% showing interest. Men’s lists were more likely to feature items like event tickets or toys and board games, each securing around 15%.
At the bottom of the list for both genders were decoration articles, desired by only 10% of women and 6% of men. This suggests that while decorative items may be beautiful, they are seen as less essential compared to practical or experiential gifts.
Just as people value practicality and flexibility in their holiday gifts, these qualities are just as crucial when searching for a new home. As a realtor, I can help you find a home that checks off everything on your “wish list,” whether it’s a spacious kitchen for family gatherings, a cozy space for solo living, or a property close to your dream neighborhood.
